On most Unix- or Unix-alike systems, such as Linux,
/usr/local
is a directory that contains miscellaneous system-wide files,
software and other staff, that was not provided by the
vendor/distributor of the original system.
While searching for a .de domain name for a server dedicated to free Unix, preferably Linux systems and featuring my Linux Penguins, I realized that most domain names that came to my mind where already in use or at least reserved. "usr-local.de" was still free :-)
Well, most of all: To have fun.
And maybe to contribute a bit to Linux/OpenSource/GNU.
